David Mack Dillingham, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully in Pleasant Valley, Missouri surrounded by family on May 15, 2025.
David was born in Kansas City in 1937 to David and Victoria Dillingham, and he was the oldest of three children. David attended North Kansas City Public Schools and graduated at North Kansas City High School in 1955. After high school, he studied psychology, played college basketball and was involved in fraternity life at Drury University. He graduated in 1960. He worked as a bridge inspector for the Missouri State Highway Department for many years, but his true passion was model railroading.
Everyone who knew Dave knew how much he loved model trains and railroading. He attended many model railroading conventions and trade shows. He loved them so much that the entire basement, dining room and a bedroom had been turned into model railroad workshops and designs. He was a man of few words but was always present. When he was speaking, he was a jokester. He never missed a sporting event, recital or birthday.
David was preceded in death by his father, David, and mother, Victoria, his brother, William and sister, Barbara (Richard), and is survived by his daughters, Candee (Joe) Pope and Heidi Eichkorn; his grandchildren, Matthew, Madison (Andrew), Carlie and Emily and his great granddaughter, Ava.
A memorial gathering will be held 4:00-6:00 on May 29, 2025 at at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Liberty, 1015 E County Road H, Liberty, Missouri 64068.
Donations to Good Shepherd Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
