David Lee Gatlin, 64, passed away on July 3, 2024. He was born in Cleveland, Tennessee on May 26, 1960 to the late Roy Lee Frazier and Jackie Jones Moore. He was a 1979 graduate of Tennessee Military Institute in Sweetwater, Tennessee. David was employed at the McMinn County Sheriff's Department prior to retiring from Bowater Southern in 2012 after 25 years of service.
David was quick to make friends and will be remembered for his one-of-a-kind sense of humor and his deep passion for family. He enjoyed sports, music, reading and studying his Bible.
In addition to his natural parents, David was preceded in death by his parents Allen R. Moore and Ann C. Gatlin; maternal grandparents Ruby and Reverend J.B. Jones; paternal grandparents Ola Mae and James Archie Brown; aunt Bobbie and Doyle Brown, uncles Wayne Gatlin and Robert Gatlin, cousin Danny Brown, brother Mark Gatlin, sister Jimiann Gatlin, nephew Clark Gatlin, mother and father in-law Danah and Donald Hindman and special friend, Dr. Dave Sangster.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years Marla Hindman Gatlin, his Dad Jimmy D. Gatlin, brother Steve Gatlin (Sharlee), sister Kellye Gatlin, uncle Larry Jones (Jimmy), aunt Anna Ruth Crumbley, niece Abigail Varner (Jeremy), sister-in-law Connie Gatlin, cousins Butch Brown (Diana), Aaron Jones (Patti) and Pam Wright, brother in-law Ray Hindman (Marilyn) and Roy Hindman (Pam), sister in-law Cindy Brenizer (Craig), close friends Eric Campbell (Rhonda), Don Hall (Linda) and numerous extended family, friends, nieces and nephews - that all meant the world to him.
David was a strong believer in Christ and had an unwavering faith that was stronger than his fear of the unknown. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the IPF Foundation for Research at https://ipffoundation.org/donations/in-memory-of/ Per David's request, there will be no services.
