David Gerard Gomes of Plymouth passed away on September 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89. He was the beloved husband of Rose (Arwshan) Gomes; the loving father of Debra Mascio and her husband Vincent of Whitman; and Jennifer Gomes and her partner Jackson Willis of Washington, DC; the cherished grandfather of Vincent David Mascio. He was the brother of the late Mary Elizabeth Gallagher, and the half-brother of Marie Raftery of California, Patricia Caramanica of South Carolina, Michael Gomes of Raynham, and the late Andy Gomes. He is also survived by many loving cousins and friends.
David was born on October 28, 1934, to the late Manual and Mary (Abreu) Gomes. David grew up in Easton and graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 1952. He went on to serve our country in the United States Marine Corps, where he honorably served for four years as a Machine Gunner and earned the Good Conduct Medal. David was also a member of the American Legion Post 40.
After the military, he began his career working for Swift and Company in sales. Soon after, he started his own business venture in Easton with a meat wholesale company, Empco Foods. His success led to the opening of Empco II, a deli and butcher shop, Epicurean Caterers, and The Diplomat of Easton (aka the Dip) where many weddings and other functions took place, creating lasting memories for many.
In his later years, David moved full-time to Plymouth where he began working as a courier for the Plymouth County Registry of Deeds and Sheriff's Department. While not working, he enjoyed spending time with his family especially watching his grandson growing up on Priscilla Beach and cheering on all Boston sports teams. He was also an active member of the John Alden Sportsman's Club where he enjoyed playing in the pool league and served up Tuesday night dinners and his famous "Dave's" stuffed quahogs.
He was cherished by many and will be greatly missed.
