David Holmgren

At 73 years old, David Harold Holmgren was welcomed into Jesus' arms on January 26, 2024 after a short six year battle with Alzheimer's.
Dave was born on January 12, 1951 to Harold and Gladys in Estherville, Iowa. He was the oldest of five children. He met the love of his life, Carmen Axmark as a teenager at Lake Geneva Bible Camp. They looked forward to summers together at family and teen camp. They went their separate ways in college, but reunited, both with children from previous marriages. They got married on April 13, 1985 and welcomed two children together.
Dave enjoyed working in many of Rochester's schools in the maintenance department. When he retired in 2017, he missed the kiddos so much that he drove school bus until his Alzheimer's diagnosis.
He loved working with his hands. He also loved music and sang in church choirs and on the music team for many years. He was the proudest grandpa and delighted in spending time with his grands.
He dedicated his life to Jesus and prayed daily for his loved ones to know the peace and love of his Savior.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Gladys Holmgren; his brother, Doyle Holmgren; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Axmark; his brother-in-law Clarence Axmark; his sister-in-law; Maggie Meyer; and his grandson Damien Beck.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Holmgren of Rochester, MN; children, Stephanie (Wade) Eddy of Fergus Falls, MN, Chris (Lindsay) Holmgren of Moorhead, MN, Davina Holmgren (Derrius Sampson) of St. Augustine, FL, Daven Holmgren of Suwanee, GA, Lisa (Tony) Hudson of Rochester, MN and Michael (Susana) Boggs of Rochester, MN; his siblings, Doug (Deb) Holmgren of Northfield, MN, Dale (Jaci) Holmgren of Plymouth, MN, and Sheila (Ricky) Kugler of Fergus Falls, MN; fourteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 1st, 2024, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Pl. NW Rochester, MN 55901). Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
