David Lee Hyer

David Lee Hyer, age 82, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, January 11, 2025, while in the care of Park Village Southside, following a period of declining health. 

Born in Dover, Ohio on March 2, 1942, David was the son of the late Raymond David Hyer and Jane E. Hawk Hyer. He was a graduate of Dover High School and spent his professional career with the Marlite company where he was a member of the maintenance team. 

On May 29, 1969, David married the former Phyllis Elaine Mishler and together the couple’s faith was nurtured at the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church. They shared 49 years of marriage prior to Phyllis’ passing on March 12, 2019. 

David enjoyed helping others as a handy man and was often called upon by friends and family to help with various home projects. He enjoyed the fellowship with friends at the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E #510 where he was a longtime member and an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. David also enjoyed spending time with close family friends, the Seabrooks, Steins, and Glasses. 

He is survived by his sons, Trent (Stephanie) Hyer of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Trevor Hyer of Stow; two grandchildren, Colton and Samuel Hyer; his sisters, Kay (James) McCollam and Carol Sullivan; a brother-in-law, Colin (Julia) Mishler, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by twin daughters, Tricia and Tracie, and brother-in-law, Richard Sullivan. 

In keeping with David’s wishes a private graveside service will be held in the Walnut Creek Mennonite Cemetery at a later date. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling cremation care.
