Dr. David K. McAfee, age 84, of Spicer, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 13, at his home on Green Lake in Spicer following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Willmar. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #167 of Willmar. There is no visitation or reviewal. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. www.petersonbrothers.com Dr. David Kimbrough McAfee was born on January 13, 1929, in Atlanta, GA. He graduated from Baylor Military Academy in Chattanooga, TN. and then attended Notre Dame University and Northwestern University Medical School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a Flight Surgeon. On September 13, 1952, he was united in marriage to Joan Caesar. Following the war, he finished his surgical residency at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He practiced general surgery for over 30 years throughout the United States. In 1965, the family moved to Willmar and in 1980 moved to their home on Green Lake in Spicer. He was the Chief of Surgery at Rice Memorial Hospital and served as President of Minnesota Chapter of American College of Surgeons. He enjoyed fishing, sailing, ice boating and nature. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan; four children, Melissa McAfee of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, Molly McAfee of Geneva, IL., Mary (and Lee) Christianson of Willmar and Phillip McAfee (and Susan Smoot) of Rocky River, OH; eight grandchildren, Rochelle, Luke, Cadence, Lydia, Emily, Steven, Edward and Frances, and his beloved canine companion, Max. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert E. McAfee Jr. in 2009.
