David Edward McInerney, 81, of North Attleboro passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at home after a courageous battle with cancer for 11 years. He was the beloved husband of Susan J. (Denis) McInerney for 55 years.
Born in Pawtucket, R.I on September 5, 1941, he was a loving son of the late Francis H. McInerney and Harriet C. (Worden) McInerney.
Growing up in South Attleboro he attended Attleboro Schools and was a graduate of St. Raphael Academy in 1958. In addition, he attended Northeastern University. He was a 4 year Navy veteran in the early 60's. He retired from Texas Instruments in 1999 after 35 years. He was a resident of North Attleboro for the past 50 years.
He loved attending his children's and grandchildren's basketball and soccer games. Early on he coached basketball, boys and girls, from St. Mary's Sacred Heart School in North Attleboro where his children attended.
Besides love of his family, his favorite pastime was golf and he also enjoyed participating in the Adult Feehan Choir and the St. Mary's Church choir (North Attleboro).
He was the devoted father of Kevin D. McInerney (Nicole), of North Attleboro, Sara J. Corcoran (Christopher), of Ipswich, Ma., and Kathleen A. Leighton (John) of North Attleboro. He was the cherished "Papa" of Cameron McInerney of North Attleboro, Olivia and Mia Corcoran of Ipswich, and Jacob and Amelia Leighton of North Attleboro.
He was the dear brother of Robert (Eileen) McInerney of Nashua, N.H. and Linda (Klaus) Marschel of Stuart, Fl. He is survived by 1 niece and 8 nephews.
David also leaves behind his in-laws whom he was very close to -Leo and Lillian Denis of Maples at Alliance in Wrentham, Ma. He also leaves behind his sister-in-laws, Charlene (Wayne) Harrison and Michelle (Dennis) Kelly.
The Funeral Mass to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to will be celebrated on Tuesday December 27, 2022 at 10:30 at St Martha's Church. Visitation will be held prior at Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow Mass at St. Mary's Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.
