Funeral services for Mr. David D. Metcalf, Jr., 87, of Beckville, Texas will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wade Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 2-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Hawthorns.
Mr. David Dowell Metcalf, Jr. was born October 18, 1937, in Beckville, Texas. He passed this life on July 2, 2025, in Longview, Texas. David was one of three boys born to the marriage of Winnie Schultz and David Dowell Metcalf. He was raised and schooled in Beckville. He was a Bearcat graduate and attended Panola College. Mr. Metcalf served his country through the U.S. Army. David married Carol Cook in 1963 and together they celebrated 53 years of marriage and two sons before she preceded him in death in 2016.
Mr. Metcalf worked as a machine operator for Anvil Products, mechanic for Texas Utilities and later retired from Carthage Cup. He was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He is also preceded in death by his, parents, brothers, Robert and Lynn Metcalf.
Mr. Metcalf is survived by his devoted sons, David Gene Metcalf and wife Shirley of Tatum, Bobby Lynn Metcalf of Beckville; grandchildren, Michael Metcalf, Austin Metcalf, U.S.M.C. Sgt Rylee Metcalf, Laney Metcalf and Brayden Metcalf; and three great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Doorman, Bud Metcalf, Neal Burgess, Lester Lewis, Kenny Herrin and James Doorman.
