David Torrey

David E. Torrey of Hanover passed away peacefully at home on his 88th birthday, July 5, 2024. He was the son of the late Edgar S. Torrey and Evelyn V. (Comlin).
David was raised in Abington where he attended Abington High School, a standout athlete in football, baseball and basketball, he went on to serve honorably in the US Army. He returned to marry the love of his life, Grace, on June 7, 1958. They lived in several spots on the south shore before finally settling in Hanover to raise their family.
David began his career with General Electric Credit Corporation before moving on to serve concurrently as Senior Vice President, UST Company Boston and President and CEO of JSA Financial Corporation. David also held the position of Executive Vice President at Boston Trade Bank.
A man of few words with a great sense of humor, David was principled but always reasonable. He was stern, but always kind, caring and generous at heart. He loved sports and spent many nights at the town basketball courts competing with people half his age. He spent years on the sidelines, never missing an opportunity to support his children or grandchildren. He was the consummate coach, offering inspiring words of encouragement for any player who needed it. He also respected and appreciated nature and its beauty.
Most importantly, David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was the loving husband of Grace (Eremian) Torrey, father of Patrice (Torrey) Hillier of Hanover, Lynne Torrey of Bethel, CT, Jeanne Torrey of Scituate, and David J. Torrey and his wife Kristina of Pembroke. Grandfather of Andrew, Torrey, Ryan, Casey, Sam, Elijah and Grace. Great grandfather of Mari, Isla, and Coast.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 16th from 3:00PM-7:00PM at Sullivan Funeral Home in Hanover - 551 Washington St., Rt. 53. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at 9:00AM at Our Lady of the Angels (St. Mary's) - 392 Hanover St. Burial will immediately follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the NVNA & Hospice who took such great care of David.
