David Sidney Uzzell passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025, in Sanford, NC at the age of 84.
He was born on May 16, 1940, to the late Wade and Bancy Uzzell in Lee County. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Charlotte Uzzell.
He is survived by his children, Jerrie Carter (Mitch) and Becky Hughes (Jonathan), his grandchildren, April Donithan (Erik), Brandon Carter, Tyler Carter, Zachary Hughes (Llala), and Joshua Hughes, and his great grandchildren, Jayden Donithan, Alexa Donithan, Ryder Carter, Spencer Carter and Camden Hughes.
David spent most of his life on the family farm in the Poplar Springs community and married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte, in 1960. He was a good man who valued his family, friends and community. During the last weeks of his life, he could be heard telling his daughters that family was the most precious thing of all. His friends and past students were also extremely important to him, and he loved spending time with everyone over meals, fishing out on the boat, or working on classic cars and listening to bluegrass music.
Early in his career he worked at the naval shipyard and then at Technical Services where he gained invaluable experience working on models for Project Apollo and the F-111 fighter. After moving back home he taught Tool and Die at Central Carolina Community College for 30 years. He was dedicated to supporting his students in their studies and careers and made lifelong friends among the students, faculty, and staff.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 3:00pm at Poplar Springs Methodist Church with Pastor Fallon Melvin presiding. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the fellowship hall at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Poplar Springs Methodist Church, 1809 Poplar Springs Road, Sanford, NC 27330.
