Dennis Edward Betz, 79, died peacefully at his home in Delaware on Thursday May 8, 2025. He was the husband of Esther M. Betz. He was born on January 22, 1946 in York Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Violet Mae (Miesky) Decker. Dennis attended York High. Following, Dennis was a roofer for many years, director of safety and housekeeping for NHS and lastly working for Atlantic Kitchen and Bath in Lewes Delaware until finally fully retiring in May 2024 when he became ill. Dennis was a longtime member of Amvets post 2 in Longneck Delaware. Dennis was former Mayor of North York Pa, was a former member of the advisory board of Northern Regional Police Dept located in York County Pa and was in the Army 82nd Airbourne Division as a Green Beret. He also coached and umpired little league baseball along with football for many years for York Boy's Club. He also played softball for the Cement Finishers # 107 that went to Canada for World Softball Tournament. Dennis was the owner of the Idoeno bar in York. He was very proud of his 39 years of sobriety and had brought some AA meetings to York. Dennis was the life of the party and always had a positive word to say, along with making you laugh. He was well known as "Papa cracker" with the Harley community and enjoyed playing Texas Holdem, deep sea fishing, hunting, dancing and karaoke. Survivors include his children Dennis "Denny" Betz Jr (Della) of York, Rochelle Detter (Charles) of Red Lion, and his stepchildren Brittany Neidigh (Brandon Heikes) and Austin Nedigh (Taylor Reider) Surviving siblings are Joann Blouse (Gary) of York, Joseph Zutell (Sharon) of Dover, Donald E, Decker Jr (Margaret) of York and Sherry Lynn Anthony of Winter Springs FL. He is survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his daughter Denise Elaine Betz, sister Carolyn Dorsey (Greg) and grandson Dylan Betz. Public Memorial viewing will be held on June 7, 2025, from 10-12 with service at 12 at Keffer Funeral Home at 2114 W. Market St. York Pa. Immediately following will be a "big shindig"/luncheon at Red Lion VFW post 1446 located at 815 S. Main St Red Lion Pa.
