Dennis L. Miller, 74, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born in Chambersburg on Monday, February 24, 1947, at the Chambersburg Maternity Home on Fifth Ave., he was the son of the late Harold E. and Helen I. (Helmuth) Miller.
Mr. Miller, a 1965 graduate of CASHS, received his bachelor's degree from Shippensburg State College in 1969 and his master's degree from the University of Southern California in 1975. He served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict earning the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Miller retired in 2000 from the U. S. Army Industrial Logistics Systems Center, a tenant organization on Letterkenny Army Depot, with over 30 years of service and in 2006 from Computer Sciences Corporation also a Letterkenny tenant organization. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church and served as the sound technician for early service for over 23 years. He was also a member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg, Institute of Retired Persons of Chambersburg, USCCA, Franklin County Historical Society-Kittochtinny, and a Life member of the NRA.
He enjoyed travelling and was able to travel to all 7 continents and over 60 countries taking thousands of pictures during these visits. An avid reader, his library consisted of over 1000 books. He also enjoyed Disney and other movies obtaining a collection of over 560 Disney movies and over 1550 other genres. Mr. Miller was also a model train enthusiast with both O and HO gauge trains and accessories. He was an avid sports fan of the Chambersburg Trojans attending sporting events for over 60 years.
Mr. Miller is survived by his brother Jeffrey (wife Cynthia) of Chambersburg, niece Kristy Yarnell (husband Ronnie), one great niece, Chloe Carr (Joe) and 4 great nephews, Brandon, Aiden, Adam, and Sean, and many cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Steven Livermore will officiate. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday evening and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or First United Methodist Church (Endowment Fund), 225 S. Second St. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
