Dennis Wheatley Obituary

Denny Wheatley, a beloved husband, father, papaw, brother, and friend, passed away November 1, 2025, at the age of 78. His vibrant spirit and artistic passion touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Born on May 3, 1947, Dennis was a proud graduate of Bishop David High School in 1965. Following his education, he dedicated part of his life to serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. His service was marked by bravery and commitment, earning him several honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

For many years, Denny made his living in the sales industry, building relationships and friendships that were as genuine as they were enduring. Yet, it was his love of music that truly enriched his life and lives of those around him. An artist at heart, Dennis found joy in singing, writing music, playing guitar, and painting. His talent made him an excellent entertainer whether he was on stage or enjoying gatherings with family and friends. Despite being known for a sometimes “prickly” personality, those who knew Denny would agree that he possessed a heart of gold—ever ready to extend help and support to his loved ones.

Denny was deeply proud of his family, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He leaves behind Pam Wheatley, his devoted wife of 52 years; his sons Jack and Joe Wheatley; and his daughter Denise (Jon) Fultz. He will be missed dearly by his grandchildren: Kayden Lodge, Amelia Fultz, Lexie Wheatley, Nolan Wheatley, Jonathan Fultz Jr., and Beau Wheatley. Dennis is also survived by his loving siblings: Stephen (Donna) Wheatley,  Melinda (Stephen) Kelly, Marsha (Tom) Parker, Rosemary Prather, John (Gina) Wheatley, and James (Chong Mi) Wheatley. His beloved pets, Poppo and Jazzy, will also carry on the love he shared at home.

Denny was predeceased by his parents Martha Jean Pruitt Wheatley and Charles Raymond Wheatley Sr., his brother Charles Wheatley Jr., and his best friend Gary McGinty. He is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law Gary Prather and niece Leslie Cooper.

In remembrance of Denny, visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Southwest Louisville on Tuesday, November 11th , from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass celebrating his life will take place at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 12th , at 11:30 AM, followed by burial at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Fort Knox at 1:30 PM.

Though he has departed from our midst, Denny Wheatley's legacy of love, creativity, and devotion to family and friendships will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will live on in the memories shared, melodies sung, and the love that binds his family together.
