Donald Carson Seago, known to all as "Don," passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2025. Born on June 27, 1940, in Gilmer, Texas, to Carson Leo Seago and Glenna Ruth Seago, Don grew up in Mineola and Quitman, Texas. He graduated from Quitman High School with the Class of 1958 and went on to attend Texas A&M University in College Station. As a member of the Corps of Cadets, he became quite familiar with Kyle Field-perhaps more than he originally intended, as he always said, "I marched all over that field and could tell you every blade of grass on it."
In 1960, Don returned home for personal reasons, and shortly after, due to the ongoing Vietnam War, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. However, in true Seago fashion, he sought out the greater challenge and joined the United States Marine Corps instead, "because I wanted to go with a harder bunch," as he always said. He completed basic training at Camp Pendleton near San Diego, California, and went on to attend flight instruction at Naval Air Station Pensacola to train to be a Marine Corps pilot. Don successfully completed solo flights and was just two weeks away from earning his flight wings when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident in 1964. Due to his injuries, he was treated at Bethesda, Maryland, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center before being medically retired from the Marine Corps in 1965 and returning home to Texas.
Don then pursued his love for art, studying at East Texas State University in Commerce before heading to California, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1969. His passion for painting-especially in oils-remained a constant throughout his life, as he found joy in capturing the world's beauty on canvas. He also passed down his love of art, drawing, photography, and painting to his children, grandchildren, and other loved ones, always eager to share his talent and creativity, inspiring many along the way.
Don later worked for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission before embarking on a long career as a truck driver. He worked for Tyler Pipe and later retired with Yellow Freight, dedicating himself to the industry for over 40 years until his retirement in 2006. He was also a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union.
A devout Christian, Don cherished his faith and attended Providence Baptist Church and later Harris Chapel Church in Lindale, Texas. His love for the Lord was evident in his kindness, his dedication to his church, as well as his appreciation for nature, and his ability to find beauty in all things.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Pamela Seago of Mineola, Texas; his sons, Jesse Seth Seago and wife Devin of Humble, Texas, and Cody Don Seago of Mineola, Texas; and his daughters, Amber Dawn Seago Trlicek and husband Jimmy Trlicek of La Grange, Texas, Angelia Seago Medina and husband Will Medina of Mineola, Texas, and April Seago Jones and husband Russell Jones of Mineola, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, David Seago and wife Lynda Seago of Alba, Texas; grandchildren, AJ Williams and wife Ashtyn Williams of Palestine, Texas, Jacob Mack Adams and wife Lauren Adams of Richardson, Texas, Carson Daniel Adams and wife Mattie Adams of Lindale, Texas, Jayden Henley "Bo" Pickett of Mineola, Texas, Alyssa Dawn Angel of La Grange, Texas, Briana Nicole Angel of Austin, Texas, Kaiden Seth Pickett of Mineola, Texas, Macie Givens and husband Jared Givens of Lindale, Texas, Ty James Trlicek of La Grange, Texas, Kylie Ann Trlicek of La Grange, Texas, Kendall Faith Seago of Humble, Texas, Skyla Nicole Else of Humble, Texas, Laila Medina of Mineola, Texas, and Landen Medina of Mineola, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and many more loved ones that he never forgot.
Funeral services for Don will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Damascus Baptist Church in Lindale, Texas, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Don's remarkable life, his love for art, and his unwavering faith. Don will be laid to rest at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Lindale, Texas; a graveside service will follow the church celebration.
Don's legacy lives on in the stories he told, the paintings he created, and the lives he touched. His humor, wisdom, and devotion to family and faith-and the amazing man that he was-will never be forgotten.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
