SMSgt (Ret) Donald William Dale, Jr. March 19, 1942 – August 31, 2025 Donald William Dale, Jr. was born on March 19, 1942, in Cedar Vale, Kansas, to Donald William Dale, Sr. and Edla Maxine (Brashear) Dale. Though the world was in the midst of great turmoil during World War II, his birth brought joy and hope to his young parents.
Don grew up on the family farm with his sister, Margaret. His childhood was filled with farm life, creekside adventures, and riding his beloved horse, Mike. After graduating from Cedar Vale High School in 1960, he attended Coffeyville Junior College, where he studied veterinary science and architecture, before completing technical training as a machinist.
In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning a 22-year career as a jet engine mechanic. His service took him around the world, including Okinawa, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia. He rose to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E-8) and retired in 1986. He continued his aviation career as a civilian contractor with Lockheed Martin at Tinker Air Force Base for another 17 years.
On August 27, 1967, Don married Sheryl Ann Brack, and together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. They raised three children-Carolyn, Ronald, and Jennifer-and cherished time spent traveling, supporting their children's activities, and later welcoming grandchildren into their lives.
Don had a strong work ethic and a love for farming, a deep respect for family traditions, and a quiet humor that left lasting impressions on all who knew him. His life reflected service, dedication, and devotion to both his country and his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Sr. and Maxine Dale, his sister, Margaret (Dale) Hudgins, and his granddaughter, Vanessa Katherine Dale.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sheryl; their children Carolyn (Walter Martinez), Ronald (Janie), and Jennifer (Doug Wright); grandchildren Erika Kohler, Corey Mumma, Damien Holleman (Aemelia), Lauren Holleman, Victoria Dale, and Vivian Dale; step-grandchildren Brandon Martinez, Madeline Wright, and Isabella Wright; as well as extended family and friends who loved him dearly.
Services will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Jones, Oklahoma. A wake will take place on Friday, September 5, at 7:00 p.m., with the funeral on Saturday, September 6, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vanessa's Big Heart Foundation (bigheartfoundation.org) or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of Barnes-Friederich, and Pope Funeral Home.
