Donald Oeth Obituary
Donald R. Oeth, 87, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at The Terrace of Solarbron in Evansville. Don was born in Evansville, Indiana to Simon and Thelma (Kinder) Oeth on August 14, 1936. Don was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Glenda (Wallis) Oeth in 2007, and second wife, Shirley (Patmore) Oeth in 2019.
Don was a 1955 graduate of Reitz High School. Upon Don's graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served in the Seabee unit. Don was proud of his service and was very active in the Owen Dunn Post #5 American Legion. He was a Past Commander of the post and served on the Honor Guard for many years. Don was able to take a trip to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight #10 in 2019.
At a very young age, Don started a lifelong telecommunications career. He first started working at Indiana Bell and then transitioned into AT&T before finally retiring from Lucent Technologies in 1999. Once he retired, Don started doing private contract telecommunications work for Alcoa and CountryMark Refinery before retiring again in his early 80s.
Don was involved in many organizations, committees, and served on many boards. He was a member and Past Master of the Beulah Masonic Lodge in Mt. Vernon and also a member of Evansville #64 Lodge, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite - receiving his 33rd Degree, and Hadi Shrine. He was a member of the Sheriff's Merit Board in the 90s, a former Marrs Township Advisory Board member, and was currently serving on the Mt. Vernon Park and Recreation Board and as President of the Black Township Advisory Board. For his years of community service, Don was awarded the Indiana Sagamores of the Wabash and a Kentucky Colonel.
Don, above all else, was a devoted Christian and a loving father and grandfather. He was an active member of Immanuel U.C.C. and served in many positions at the church. He loved his family and was extremely proud of them all.
Don is survived by his sons, Greg (Melody) Oeth and Keith (Robin) Oeth; grandchildren, Brittaney (Matt) Johnson, Courtney (Jay) Price, Destiney (Bo) Harris, Haley (Nathaniel) Duckworth, and Summer (Austin) Key; great-grandchildren, Amelia, Ellie, Mia, Jaxson, Eliza, Daisy, Greyson, Calvin, and arriving soon Beckett and Carter; brother, Raymond Oeth; nephews and niece; and special friend, Ann Simpson.
