Don relocated to Topeka and started his work career at the Topeka State Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. He later was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in the Banbury Department until he retired in 2001.
Don was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and had been a faithful member for over 60 years. He was a faithful worker and was currently serving on the Finance Committee. He also served on the Trustee Board, Usher Board and Bereavement Committee. He did volunteer work at Let's Help and with Harvesters. He loved working at the church and with people, but most importantly he believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Don enjoyed life spending time with family and friends. He attended his grandchildren's sporting events and rarely missed any of their basketball, football, baseball, volleyball, and gymnatics. He also loved fishing, hunting, bowling, playing dominos, playing spades declaring himself "The Spade King", loved to grill and named himself the "Bar-B-Que Master". He also enjoyed outings to the casino and was a former member of the Ebonite Bowling League. He loved KU Jayhawks basketball and always wore ball caps. He enjoyed reading western books, watching western and Syfy movies, and taking care of his yard, which made him proud. He knew no strangers and to know him was to love him. He was a great friend and mentor to many.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 63 years, Audrey; two daughters, Darlene Wright of Topeka, Kansas and Deborah Wright of Lawrence, Kansas; two grandchildren, Mark Anderson Jr. (Delischa) and Kristopher Wilson; six great-grandchildren, Nicolus Anderson, Mark Anderson III, Mardel Anderson, Maclin Anderson, Evelyn Reeks-Wilson and Aidric Wilson; two sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Wright and Sharon Wright and a host of other relatives and friends to celebrate his life.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
II Timothy 4:7
