Doris Elaine Bivens, 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025 in Granbury, Texas.
Visitation for Doris will be held on Friday evening, January 24, 2024, from 5 until 7 P.M, at the Wiley Funeral Home, 400 Highway 377 East, in Granbury, Texas. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11 A.M., the funeral home. Burial will follow at Acton Cemetery.
Doris was born June 17, 1926, in Fort Worth, Texas to the late R.C. and Beatrice Lawing Swaim. She graduated high school in 1942, at the age of 16 and went straight to work at Ault's Music Store. She continued to work until the age of 88 as a bookkeeper. She was married to Richard Bivens on December 24, 1950, in Dallas. They lived in Midland, Texas until moving to Granbury in 1978.
Doris was an avid gardener and was known to have everyone wait while she took pictures of flowers everywhere she went. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, cross stitch and never found a scrap she couldn't use. She was a long-time volunteer at Ruth's Place in Granbury where she received the Volunteer of the Year award at age 95. Anyone who has ever known her will remember her by her laugh and her smile. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sara, brothers, Howard, Wesley and James and her son, Leonard.
Doris is survived by her daughter Christine Hill and partner Janis Luce of Baldwinsville, New York; son Thomas Bivens and wife, Debbie of Tishomingo, Oklahoma; daughter Shelley Hollars and husband, Dwayne of Cresson, Texas. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the care she received at Waterview Assisted Living and Interim Hospice, especially Mary Ann Holland, RN, Maria Gomez and the on-call staff that assisted with her care.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Ruth's Place at: https://ruthsplace.wixsite.com/ruthsplace/donations

Lisa Morse

January 30, 2025

I´m Lisa Tatum Morse and Doris Bivens was my aunt. I´m the daughter of her only sister, Sara Beck. I have fond memories of Doris at her home and group gatherings in Granbury. Our entire family have had several reunions there and so much fun. She was a friendly soul and loved people. I recall all the crocheted caps she made for elderly patients. She also volunteered at the elementary school to help kids with reading. She told me how proud she was of my work as a Caregiver for the elderly. Doris was a wonderful caring person. I will always love her.
