Doris J. Dennard

Doris J. Dennard was born on July 10, 1943, in Riverhead, Long Island to the late Porter and Viola (Funn) Rollins, Sr. She made her transition unexpectedly on Friday, December 9, 2022, with her loving daughter Laura by her side. Doris moved to Elmira, New York as a young girl and graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1961. After high school she attended and graduated from Elmira Business School. She started her career in law enforcement working at the Elmira Police Department later moving to New York State Parole where she was employed for 30 years, retiring in 2005. Her family was her life, she was always there when someone needed an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, or some good old school honest advice. Her door was always open with no judgement. In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by siblings: Porter Rollins Jr., Douglas, Robert and Willard (Sonny) Rollins, Ethel Woodson, Virginia Boyd (Ginny), Lillian (Paul) Audinwood and her best friend Marjorie Jones. Doris leaves to cherish her memory loving children; Laura Dennard, Walter (Angie) Dennard III, Valerie (Cindy) Dennard, Special stepson; Rory Dennard, grandchildren; Kayla (Karlton) Ghant, Walter Dennard IV, Tiliah (Stuart) Wittinghman, Crystal Jackson, Jamilah Austin-Graves, and Jaliah Graves; great-grandchildren; Dominique, Trae, DJ, Chris, Cinco, Isaiah, Titan, Landon and Tatum; great-great-grandchild Jeremiah. Siblings; Helen Rollins, Barbara Jones (Book), Elva Stark (Biddy) and Mary Prescott (Callie). Special nieces and nephews "she kept it real was truthful with all of them", and a host of other relatives and friends. Doris was an avid bingo player and was considered an unofficial employee of the College Avenue Convenient Store. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Thursday, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Faith Temple COGIC 722 Standish Street Elmira, NY. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2 pm. Reverend Shelley Boyd, her niece will officiate. A repast will be held at 360Aurora, 360 East 14th Street, Elmira Heights, New York, 14903 immediately following the service. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the Dennard family.
