Doris Jean Gibbs

Doris Jean Gibbs, 90, of Soddy-Daisy, went home to the Lord on August 18, 2025. She passed away peacefully with family at her side. Born June 4th, 1935, in Lupton City, Tennessee, Doris was the daughter of Ira and Cora Laney. Doris and her husband, Ralph Gibbs, moved to Soddy-Daisy in 1962 to open a new pharmacy, Daisy Prescription Shop. Doris and Ralph were married 44 years when Ralph preceded her in death in 1999.

Doris loved the Soddy-Daisy community. She supported the community through many service projects, including her involvement in the Woman's Club and Jaycettes. Doris also served as Scout Leader, introduced first to the Cub Scouts as her sons grew and later the Brownie Scouts and Girl Scouts with her daughters.

Doris combined two great pleasures, children and sunshine, around her swimming pool. She delighted in having the yard and pool filled with children of any age, watching them play while always ready to snuggle the little ones as they needed a rest. Children gave her joy (even more than reading).

Doris and her husband were founding members of the North Hamilton Church of Christ where she remained a member until her death. She was active in the Lord's work until prevented by illness. She loved the Lord and being with her church family. Doris taught Sunday school for decades, always with a smile, ready with a hug, a kiss, a hand to hold and a lap for them to sit.

In addition to her parents, Ira and Cora Laney, and her husband, Ralph Gibbs, Doris was preceded in death by her son, Rick Gibbs. She is survived by her brother, Joel Laney: sister-in-law, Brenda Laney; children, Kelley Gibbs, Keith Gibbs, Beth Rousseau, Jeanna Life; grandchildren, Blake Gibbs, Maegan Gooden, Lindsey Smith, Harrison Gibbs, Marissa Allen, Cassie Rousseau, Seth Rousseau, Brittany Olson, Bailey Life, Emma Life; and many great grandchildren.

Doris was a kind, sweet and loving lady. She is missed by many.

Visitation is 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, August 21, 2025. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, August 22, 2025 at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Minister David Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
