Doris was a faithful, caring and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed celebrating and sharing the events of her children and other family members. Nothing made her happier than the quality time she spent with her family. She was the greatest gift giver, both of her time and love, but also thoughtfully selecting presents she thought the person would like.
Doris was born on November 7, 1936 to Lillian and Eugene Bonk. She spent her childhood living in Dearborn with her brother, Eugene, and sister, Karen. Her relatives were close by and she spent time with her aunts, uncles and cousins. She attended St. John Catholic School. She met Gerald (Jerry) while both were attending college at Central Michigan University. They fell in love and married on September 14, 1957. Together they raised four wonderful children; Lynnda, Susan, Jonathon and Raejean & added two brothers to the family, Man and Ngoc Pham and also one wonderful woman, Jeannie Saagman. As all these extended families grew, so did the love. She was a great mother, loving her children and being active in all parts of their lives. After many moves, they finally settled their family in Walled Lake in 1972. They attended St. William Catholic Church. She would spend time with her young children down at Reed Lake beach, which they greatly enjoyed. The household was never without pets such as rabbits, a parrot, raccoons, a tarantula, various rodents, or dogs (Scamp or Razzle). She served many wonderful meals, some were tuna noodle casserole, lasagna, beef stew, plus many others, some were one-time originals. She made up funny words from her children's mispronunciations as they grew up, such as aliga dor and epimafluff. Such a fun Mom! She would say "Listen to your mother." The day she died, that phrase went viral online.
After her children were grown, in 1990 she completed her Bachelor's Degree in sociology from Central Michigan University, which had been on pause since 1957. She loved animals and babies, always wanting to care for and protect them. So her working in the Walled Lake School System at Oakley Park Elementary in the Latch Key program provided her with time to spend with children. Doris was very social and enjoyed meeting and talking with all sorts of people. She also worked part time at Twelve Oaks Mall at the information desk and had a chance to help and talk to many interesting people, and even "tell them where to go" to get to their desired store.
Doris passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Described as kind, devoted and generous, she will be deeply missed by her loving extended family and many special friends.
Mrs. Host is the beloved wife of 66 years to Gerald "Jerry" Host. Loving mother of Lynnda (Geoff) Skidmore and Susan Host, Jonathon (Heather) Cleland-Host and Raejean Host. Grandmother of Raven (Cameron), Garrett, Kaedon, Adair, Rowan, Connor and Drachen. Dear sister of Gene (Jacqueline) Bonk and the late Karen Bonk. She is also survived by numerous dear nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Doris in addition to being a Gem of a person, you were my right hand during my time as your CS Manager for over 20 years. The Shopping Center is not the same today. Those wonderful days of seeing you behind the desk knowing our shoppers were getting the best service possible are now days gone by. However, for those of us still left behind, you left me with some pretty awesome memories. There has never been another you! Still missing you!

On behalf of the existing and previous members of the Twelve Oaks staff, Doris was a treasure to work with and have as part of our team. The service desk benefitted greatly from her input and care, especially when it involved our customers.

My heart is heavy for her loss. We worked together for 20+ years. Her work ethic was impeccable. She made a lot of lifelong friendships along her way. To me she was more than a coworker and more than a friend. She loved and cherished her granddaughters and her entire family. She enjoyed providing latch key and working with kids.
The world will miss the lady, but especially I will miss her in this world. Love ya´ Doris
