Doris Manekas

Doris (Duffy) Manekas, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on July 11, 2025. She was born in Lowell, MA, and brought up her family in Chelmsford, MA. Doris was the wife of the late Stephen George Manekas, who passed away in May 2020. Together, they were happily married for 65 years. Doris was the sister of the late Janice Carney and her husband, Joseph Carney, and the daughter of the late PVT William and Mary (Donnelly) Duffy. She was predeceased by her brother, William Duffy Jr., and her son, William George Manekas. Doris also left behind her Aunt Emma of Marshfield, MA.
She was a devoted mother to the late William Manekas and his wife, Linda; Michael Manekas; Susan (Manekas) Schott and her husband, Robert; and Kathy (Manekas) Tasiopoulos.
Doris was a loving "Grandma" to Stephen Manekas II; Stephanie (Tasiopoulos) Nicoll and her husband, Jonathan Nicoll; James Tasiopoulos and fiancée, Myrilla; Sarah Schott; Nicholas Schott and fiancée, Casey; and Max Schott.
She was also a great "Grandma" to Lina and Anthony Nicoll, whom she loved spending time with, as they always made her smile and laugh. Doris also left behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Doris was a girl officer, majorette, and cheerleader at Lowell High School, and earned her teaching degree at the University of Lowell ("Lowell State Teacher's College"). She taught in the Billerica School System. Later, she was a Girl Scout leader in Chelmsford and was able to take the troop to Disney World. She was very involved in her children's school activities. The grandchildren will never forget how "Grandma" enjoyed cooking "Mickey Mouse" pancakes for them all the time.
Doris loved her family get-togethers, gardening, architectural drawing, puzzles, reading, and watching murder mysteries and the Harry Potter series. She was an avid Boston sports team supporter and enjoyed traveling with her husband in their camper to Florida during the winters.
Funeral services will be held at Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex St., Chelmsford, MA (www.dolanfuneralhome.com) on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. A visiting hour will be held from 12 Noon to 1PM followed by a prayer service at 1PM. Procession to St. Patrick Cemetery, 1251 Gorham St., Lowell, MA, for the burial to follow.
