Doris Theresa (Newton) Marcotte died peacefully at her home in Bridgewater, New Jersey on Friday, December 6, 2024. She was 97.
She was married for over 70 years to the late Alfred G. Marcotte, who died in 2023.
Born in Lowell, Doris was the daughter of the late James and Bertha (Marchand) Newton. She graduated from Keith Hall in 1945 and worked at the Courier Citizen for several years. After raising three children, she returned to work as a reading and library aid with the Chelmsford Public Schools and as a seasonal auditor for the IRS, retiring in 1989.
Doris was an avid reader and tennis player throughout her life and enjoyed lunches with friends and traveling with friends and family. Her most memorable trip was a family vacation to Italy that included a visit to the Vatican, but she cherished her summer vacations at the Outer Banks in North Carolina with extended family.
She loved classic movies, particularly musicals, and her encyclopedic knowledge of this movie genre was extraordinary.
Doris is survived by her three children, Nancy McQuade (Kevin), Deborah Marcotte (Randall Haist) and Thomas Marcotte (Catherine). She was a loving Meme to her ten grandchildren, Timothy McQuade, Daniel McQuade (Amanda), Caitlin McQuade, Patrick McQuade, Kelsey Haist (Scott Thompson), Taylor Haist, Thomas Marcotte, Peter Marcotte, Andrew Marcotte, Leigh Marcotte, and her four great-grandchildren, Isla, Stella, Conor and Lacey McQuade.
She was predeceased by her much-loved sisters and their spouses, Dorothy (Betty) and Martin McMahon and Jeanne and Joseph Carnevale.
A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church in Chelmsford on Friday, December 27 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
