Doris Mae Ninmer, 93, of Kiel died Tuesday September 3, 2024 at Willowdale Health Services, New Holstein. She was born on November 3, 1930 in the Town of Schleswig, daughter of the late Otto and Norma (Reichwald) Henning. Doris Mae attended Fountain Park School in the Town of Schleswig and was a 1948 graduate of Kiel High School. She worked for her dad, Otto at the Henning Lakeside Cheese Factory through her high school years.
Doris Mae was a lifelong member of Bethlehem UCC in the Town of Schleswig. She was confirmed there and on May 21, 1949 she was also united in marriage to Merlin Ninmer. She raised her family and together they lived and farmed on the Ninmer Homestead. They moved to Kiel in June of 1992. Doris Mae and Merlin celebrated their 75th Anniversary in May of 2024.
During the years, Doris Mae kept busy working at the Kiel School District as a driver for special needs children and working in the cafeteria. She also worked at Hennings Cheese factory, Delta Publications and volunteered at the Salvatorian Center in New Holstein. An active member of Bethlehem UCC, she was a previous choir member and director, a member of the Ladies Aid and held many office jobs. She was the church historian, church organist and taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. Doris Mae enjoyed genealogy and researching her and Merlin's family. She created a family history keepsake book for her three children. In her free time Doris Mae enjoyed scrapbooking, bowling, sheepshead, gardening, cooking and baking and going to Polka Dances. Doris Mae and Merlin enjoyed bus trips and traveling to most of the United States, Hawaii and twice to Europe. Above all else, spending time with family and her grandchildren was most important to her. Mom was a great cook and a delicious meal was always waiting for her family. She loved her chocolate chip cookies, chocolate kisses and Dove candy.
Survivors include her husband of 75 years; Merlin, three children; Randy (Carol) Ninmer, Monroe WI, Wanda (Art) Matzdorf, Sayner, WI, Paula (John) Mahloch,
Kiel, WI, three grandchildren; Kevin (Sara) Matzdorf, Eau Claire WI, Lauren (Jared) Ninmer, Racine, WI, and Adam Ninmer, Plano, TX, Further survived by a grand daughter-in-law; Angie Matzdorf, great grand daughter; Alison Matzdorf, four step great grandsons; Sawyer, Beau, Reid and Jack. Doris Mae is also survived by a sister-in-law; Helen Henning along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson; Gerald "Jerry" Matzdorf, infant sister; Evelyn, father-in-law and mother-in-law; Edwin and Alvina Ninmer, brother; Everett (Jellane) Henning, sisters; Elvera (Milton) Voigt, Leora (Herman) Thomas, Lorraine (Keith) Boardman, brother-in-law; Clarence (Arlene) Ninmer and an infant brother-in-law, Raymond Ninmer
Funeral Services for Doris Mae will be held at 12:00pm on Monday September 9, 2024 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ (11608 Lax Chapel Rd. Kiel) with Pastor Randy Koppenhaver officiating. Burial will take place in the Church Cemetery. A time of visitation will take place on Monday at the Church from 9:00am until 11:45am when we will have brief family rites before the services at 12:00pm.
