Doris June Sherry was born on February 20th, 1937 to Gertrude and John Belicek in a small Texas country town at the turn of the depression, just a few years before the beginning of World War II. After 86 amazing years, she went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Dec 4th, 2023. She was the fourth of seven children and spent the majority of her childhood in Taylor, Texas. In 1954, she was introduced by her friend to a young man by the name of James and from that day forward they have been together ever since. On July 24,1955, James and Doris were married in Taylor, Texas while they were both still in high school and began their journey. Both their first and only loves, they have shared their entire lives together from that day forward. Also, they both dedicated their lives to the Lord and both became saved. Another important piece of who they were not just as individuals, but as a couple as well. Her husband, James worked part time while still in school and Doris began a nursing school training program. Within a few years of being married, she left her nurse training behind to raise her 2 daughters, Vickie and Melodie. After a few years they moved to Grand Prairie, Texas to start a new chapter in their journey. Doris eventually even took care of her young crazy grandchildren as well! She spent the rest of her life as a homemaker. Everything was a tool in order to learn something or to be used as an example of how be thankful for our lives. From the beautiful statues of cherubs with flowing water to the rows of her beautiful irises and roses she planted. Christmas was her favorite time of the year and she had Christmas trees in every room of the house and each had its own color and decor. Their outside yard was beautifully decorated with thousands of lights and Christmas displays. Everything that she did, she did with a passion and purpose. And it had to be just right, too. Her loves not only included family and her garden, but also a love of fast cars! From her 62 Stingray to later on her Chevelle and then later to her Cadillac. Automobiles were a huge passion throughout her whole life. From torque & horsepower in the early years for racing (yes, they both raced cars!) to being focused on the comfort and elegance of her Cadillac in later years. She always traveled the streets in style! She also loved to travel to new places and it played an important part of her life after the kids grew up. From cruises and vacations to in Alaska, to Hawaii, Canada, and British Columbia. Seeing snowcapped mountains and traveling across the world with her husband was always captured in multitudes of photos. She spent her life always in dedication of service to our Lord and sharing His gospel. From countless hours of service to her church and community, prison ministry visits, to always sharing her faith with family and friends. Untold amounts donated to charities but also never being too busy to sit down and have a conversation at the dining room table to share a cup of coffee or her favorite cup of cherry apricot tea. The later part of her life was spent in Midlothian under the beautiful shade of their trees, and a yard full of lush grass and manicured flower beds. Seems like every place she ever went she did her best to show the beauty God has given us all. And she reminded us of His love for us even on their home phone's voicemail message. "This is the day that the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it for God loves you, Have a blessed Day!" Psalms 118:24 She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, James Sherry. Her two daughters, Vickie Struve and Melodie Stevens, as well as her grandchildren, Marcus Struve, Roxanne Struve, Aaron Stevens, and Chase Stevens. And her great grandchildren and her great great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Midlothian, Texas.
