Dorothea Wyle "Dot" Laughlin

Dorothea "Dot" Wyle Laughlin passed away peacefully at her home, at age 97, on November 5, 2025. Born May 1, 1928 in Cohoes, New York, Dot lived a long, full life defined by love, generosity and tireless energy.
Dot was first married to Jerome "Jerry" Wyle until his passing in 1970. In 1976, she married James "Jim" Laughlin, who predeceased her in 2010. Dot is survived by her beloved children: Gail & her husband, Merrill Noreen, Howard, Matt and Linda & David Laughlin - along with many friends and extended family who cherished her deeply.
Dot was known for her boundless spirit and her devotion to maintaining her beautiful home and garden. Her creativity and compassion shone through her passion for quilting. Over the years, Dot lovingly crafted more than 4,000 lap-sized quilts, affectionately known as "Binkies", which she donated to others to bring them comfort through such organizations as Samaritans House, and local Fire and Police departments.
A proud supporter of the Lions Club, Dot contributed faithfully to their mission, including the collection of eyeglasses for those in need. Her faith was central to her life; she was a devoted member of Wycliffe Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach and attended faithfully until she was no longer able.
Dot will be remembered for her warmth, infectious laugh, generosity and steadfast faith. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love. Her family and friends will miss her dearly and take comfort knowing that she lives on in eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The world is truly a better place for having her in it. We all wish there were more people like her in this world.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel. The service will take place at 11am on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Wycliffe Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
