Douglas "Doug" McDonald, a revered figure in both his personal and professional life, passed away on December 22, 2024, in Gallatin, Tennessee, at the age of 82. Born on August 31, 1942, in Flint, Michigan, Doug cultivated a life filled with joy, service, and a deep commitment to his family and community.

Doug worked hard to ensure he could support his family, often times working many hours to be successful. He owned a successful sporting goods store and then began a career in law enforcement. He retired from the Flint, Michigan Sheriff's Department in 1993, having made significant contributions to public safety during his tenure. His passion for service extended beyond law enforcement; he was instrumental in volunteering and fundraising for Project 22, Arc of Cumberland Valley, famously utilizing his hot dog stand at Lowe's in Hendersonville to support these worthy causes.

Doug’s faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his love for his family was at the core of his existence. He was unashamed to profess Christ and share his testimony with others, and was a member of First Baptist Hendersonville. His love and support he had for his family was unwavering. He enjoyed supporting his grand children in their athletic endeavors throughout their formative years, hardly ever missing a practice or game.

Doug is survived by his daughter, Michelle Beazley (Ted), his son, Michael McDonald, his granddaughter, Katie House (Brandon), his grandson, Jacob Cook, and his great-grandson, Chip House. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters, Cindy Spencer, Debbie Hiltz (Bob), Celeste Yager (Steve), niece, Robin Wiltse, and other very special nieces and nephews.

Doug was a passionate fan of his favorite sports teams, cheering for both the University of Michigan and the University of Tennessee, and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: enjoying a good meal, talking, and being surrounded by family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Edith Bernard Pyrc, and his wife, Lynda McDonald, who await him in eternal peace. Doug McDonald will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, his kindness, and his love for those around him. His legacy will undoubtedly live on through the lives he touched and the memories he created with his family and community.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the small chapel of First Baptist Hendersonville.  Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Project 22, Arc of Cumberland Valley, 730 Belvedere Drive, Gallatin, Tennessee 37066.
