Douglas Michael Hicks passed away on Wednesday May 1, 2024. He was born on October 22, 1961 to Yvonne Rose (Snyder) Hicks and James Neal Hicks, Sr., both deceased. Douglas was one of 5 children and is survived by James Neal Hicks, Jr. (Sharon), Timothy Ross Hicks, Holly Anne Hicks-Opperman and Rodger Allen Hicks. His many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews enjoyed beautiful family celebrations that he created with their grandmother at her home. There are countless cousins belonging to the Mueller, Snyder, Etter, Spire and Hicks clans. His friends are many. Family and friends were there for him in the final days of his life.
Doug attended St. Raphael's Grade School in Morningside, Pittsburgh, PA until the family moved to O'Hara Township, Pittsburgh, PA in 1971 where he attended and graduated from Fox Chapel High School. He was a master arborist; a lover of horses and spent most of his time outdoors fishing, camping and hiking. A man of few possessions, he enjoyed woodworking, singing, jewelry making, dancing, cooking for many of the local fundraisers, baking for the local food banks, gardening and studying history. At the end of the day, you could find him sitting in his chair in the family room with a fire crackling in the fireplace and his favorite album broadcasting music from the stereo or watching an old western.
Douglas is gone, but memories are forever. The thousands of trees, shrubs and flowers that he planted will offer gentle words to the world each time they turn toward the sun, it rains or the wind blows. He can rest now.
