Douglas G. "Doug" MacKenna, 82, of Auburn, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 following a recent decline in health, surrounded by the love of his family.
He leaves his devoted children, Christopher MacKenna, Allyson MacKenna, and Bethany Strothers, who was like a daughter to Doug, and her husband Daniel; his former wife, Elaine M. (Kubasiak) Strothers; and Bethany's children, Zachary, Isla, and Aurelia; as well as several cousins.
Doug was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Richard and Harriet (Sargent) MacKenna. He graduated from Wachusett Regional High School, Class of 1961, before earning his Bachelor's degree in English from Worcester State College, Class of 1968. Doug had a lengthy career as a Social Worker, a job that was a true calling for him, and one that he was compelled to.
Even outside of work, Doug will be remembered for his kindhearted nature and willingness to help anyone who may be in need.
He was a true family man and an avid Boston sports fan. He loved attending Red Sox games at Fenway Park. Doug also enjoyed learning about history, had a natural curiosity about the world around him, and could usually be found with a book in hand.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund: https://www.jimmyfund.org/get-involved/give/individual-giving
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Doug's family between 10 – 11 AM on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn, with a service beginning at 11. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
