Douglas McDougall Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 3, 2023.
Douglas Paul McDougall was born in Fort Worth, Texas on June 10, 1958. He grew up in the Fort Worth area, spending most of his childhood and early adulthood near Haslet, Texas. Doug graduated from Northwest High School in 1977. He earned an Associate Degree in Rehabilitation Services from Tarrant County Junior College. He then earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from the University of North Texas in 1993. Douglas received the Fannie Belle Gaupp Award for Excellence in Social Work from the University of North Texas.
Doug was a Christian, a firm believer in God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son. The foundations of his faith came from his formative years in the Catholic Church. As an adult, he was an active member in local Baptist congregations. Normandale Baptist Church was his latest church home. In recent years, as Doug's health interfered with congregational worship, Doug's personal relationship with God was the touchstone of his life.
Doug always had a positive attitude to succeed despite his personal challenges. This led him to a career of more than 20 years in which he made a difference in the lives of others who faced disabilities. His life's work grew from volunteering with Easterseals during his teens. He then worked with adults who had multiple intellectual and physical disabilities to live in community residential settings. Finally, as a Licensed Social Worker, Doug helped individuals who had intellectual, emotional, and/or physical disabilities to live in community settings rather than to be institutionalized. Doug retired from Tarrant County MHMR in 2006. The work and dignity of each person was a cornerstone of Doug's career.
Doug loved music, and he excelled at playing the euphonium. In high school, he was recognized as a member of the Tri-State Honor Band. Additionally, he received the National Aaron Music Award. In his spare time, Doug loved weightlifting, fishing, and watching sports. Most of all, he loved to spend time with family and friends.
Doug was a great family man and a loving father. He is survived by his wife Marie Hall McDougall, his son Douglas Paul McDougall Jr., and his daughter and son-in-law Anna Marie and Brantley Dotson. His surviving family also include his mother Mary Kral, his brother and sister-in-law Mark and Sheila McDougall and their son Mathew, and his brother and sister-in-law Charles and Debbie McDougall and their daughter Katie. He is preceded in death by his father Paul McDougall.
His funeral is scheduled on Monday, January 9, 12:00 PM at Mt. Olivet Chapel. Minister Brent Lightsey will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doug's life. Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in honor of Douglas McDougall to Easterseals North Texas at https://www.easterseals.com/northtexas/ways-to-give/

It was such a pleasure when Doug came to Holland Lake to visit his mother and to help her with Bingo. Mary seemed to win more often with him there, and it got to the point that when he and Marie came in, their presence meant I better start digging in my pocket for the quarters. But my favorite memory was when they came for Mother's Day tea party. We had a give away that day and Doug was the reciperant of a lovely pink and green purse! He took it all in stride....as the picture shows. He was a wonderful son. We will definitely miss him.
