It is with great sadness, we announce that Michael Ray Johnson passed away on September 19, 2025, at the age of 57, after a 5 year battle with brain cancer. Michael never sought to be the center of attention, but his quiet influence and steady presence made him just that in whatever sphere of the community he entered. It is for that reason, among many others that his departure will be of such a great impact on us all. While no one was ready for him to go, we take comfort in reflecting on his life that was rich in faith, family, service, and adventure.

Michael was born on July 4th, 1968, to Lonnie and Karen Johnson of Meridian, ID, in the town of Hoopa, CA. He was the 1st of 4 children, and although in Michael’s mind he was always 1st, his parents only committed to Michael never being outside the top 4 among the children. Michael graduated High School from Canyonville Bible Academy in 1986 and went to several colleges, eventually earning a degree in Aerospace engineering from San Diego State University. As a result of military cutbacks, that job market sharply declined, and being a man of many talents and high intelligence, he pivoted to pursue a degree in Medicine. Throughout his life, he never quit being an engineer with regular tinkering and adjusting of whatever was in need, but he committed himself with joy and exuberance to being a doctor after obtaining a Medical Degree from University of Utah in May 1998.

Michael found and married the love of his life Ann Marie Mounts in 2000, during his residency at U of U. Ann Marie was working as a nurse at Primary Children’s Hospital at the time, so it seemed fated, that in 2001, together with 2 partners, they opened Families First Pediatrics in Draper, Utah. Together, Mike and Ann Marie had 5 children. Larkin, Porter, Oliver, Sawyer and Cecily. While his love of medicine was significant, his love of family was of utmost importance in his life.

Michael’s hobbies included family trips on the houseboat at Lake Powell, snow skiing, running, baseball (focused primarily on the Giants), working in his yard and many other things, including inadvertently driving golf carts into hot tubs.

In 2020, Michael was diagnosed with cancer. Despite the countless number of lives he had an impact on through his medical practice, Michael knew exactly how to respond to this change in his life. He adapted once more and became a full time activity coordinator for his family. He spent the last 5 years of his life showing his wife and children, and anyone smart enough to watch, the importance of time spent with family.

Michael was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived every moment committed to the principle of an eternal family.

Michael is survived by his wife Ann Marie, his children, his parents and 3 siblings. If you would like to make a charitable donation in Michael’s memory, they can be made to the University of Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Institute.

A celebration of life will be held at the Corner Canyon 7th Ward, 13366 South 1300 East, Draper, UT, on Saturday, September 27 at 11:00 am, with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 am at the church. There will also be a viewing on Friday, September 26 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the same location. Interment, Rexburg, Idaho
