Duane R. Kelly, known affectionately to all as Kelly, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 16, 2025, at his home in Summit, Illinois. Born on August 18, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Ester Kelly and Wilma Mae Quaderer and raised by his loving foster parents Boniface and Mary Sanchez. Kelly was a man of great character, whose wisdom, generosity, and handiness left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched.
Kelly grew up in a bustling household and shared his childhood with his siblings Alan Kelly, Joe Sanchez, and Bonita Sanchez, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving sisters Kelly Michael, Michelle Sanchez, Valerie Sanchez Lucco, Lisa Sanchez, and Marjorie Wolfe. His legacy continues through his children, Nicole Groves, Jimmy Kelly, and Stacey Kelly, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Lauren Kamienski, Matthew Kamienski, Gage Kelly (deceased), Nathan Kelly, Trinity Groves, and Olivia Groves, all of whom brought great joy to his life.
A proud graduate of Argo Community High School, Kelly carried the lessons of his youth throughout his life. His passion for demolition and stock car racing was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for the thrill of life. On weekends, he could often be found at the local racetrack, where the roar of engines and cheers of the crowd were music to his ears.
Kelly was a man of many talents and was often described as handy. There was no task too great or too small for him to tackle, and he approached each project with a wise mind and a steady hand. His generosity knew no bounds, as he was always willing to lend his skills and time to help friends, family, and even strangers in need. The words that best describe Kelly-handy, wise, and generous-are an understatement to those who knew him well. His wisdom was a guiding light for many, his generosity was as boundless as the ocean, and his ability to fix and create was nothing short of miraculous. Kelly's life was one of purpose and passion, and he lived every day to its fullest, making the most of every moment with his loved ones and his pursuits.
As we bid farewell to Duane R. Kelly, we celebrate a life well-lived, a race well-run, and a man who was truly one of a kind. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will continue to inspire us. Though he has crossed the finish line of his earthly journey, his spirit remains with us, fueling our hearts with love and our lives with the lessons he imparted. Rest in peace, Kelly. Your race is won, but your legacy endures.
