E. Mary Cole, age 102, of Schaller, Iowa died November 27, 2024 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Schaller. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the CHURCH. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.
Elinor Mary Hudson-Cole was born November 17, 1922 to John and Florence (Carren) Hudson in Schaller, Iowa. She attended school in Schaller, graduating in 1940. Mary continued her education at Buena Vista University, graduating with honors. She later attended the University of Colorado's graduate speech program. After college, Mary taught English and speech. Throughout her life, Mary taught in Sheldon, Spencer, and Aurelia, Iowa.
On August 3, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to James Cole. To this union, three children were born: Nancy, John, and Sharon.
Faith was the cornerstone of Mary's life. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Schaller where she touched the lives of many children teaching sunday school and vacation bible school. She was a member of UMW and served as secretary on the church council. Mary shared her musical talent by playing the church piano and organ for many years.
In her free time, Mary enjoyed gardening. She also loved to read. Mary stayed up-to-date on politics and could be found writing letters to her congressman. She treasured time with her family. Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish Mary's memory are her children: Nancy Ehlers; John Cole; Sharon (Brian) Stoos; grandchildren: Jason Ehlers: Brock Ehlers; Neal Ehlers; Cody Stoos; Molly Heredia; eight great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
Welcoming her into heaven are her parents: John and Florence Hudson; husband: James Cole; and siblings: Alice, Fred, and Ann.
