Edward J. Gaffney III, 35, of Raynham, MA passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025 from the result of a brief unexpected illness. Born in Westerly, RI he was the son of Edward Gaffney Jr. and Karen (Pont) Gaffney of Stonington, CT. A native of Stonington, Ed attended local schools and was a graduate of Stonington High School class of 2008. During his high school years, he excelled in football serving as Team Captain his junior and senior years. He also lettered in basketball, track and field and lacrosse. Following high school, he enrolled at Stonehill College in MA, continuing his love for football playing on the Stonehill Skyhawks football team. Ed majored in communication with a minor in Business Management. Ed was a Dispatcher handling and executing transportation services globally with BioTrans Logistics out of Brockton, MA, where he worked proudly for the last seven years. Eddie lit up the room with his presence and will be deeply missed by those who adored and loved him. His smile was infectious and he had a heart of pure gold. Eddie was deeply involved with and passionate about his family, often showing his love for his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he leaves his daughter, Olivia Jayne Gaffney; his partner, Brittany Venturo and her family; a brother, Daniel Pont; two sisters, Amy and Christina Gaffney; niece, Annelise Pont; his two nephews, Brian Gaffney and Michael Brown; (Two aunts, Kelli Allen (John) and Mariann Kubic (Chuck) and his uncle, William Gaffney (Brenda). Ed was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Edward J. Gaffney Sr. and Roberta (Wells) Gaffney; his maternal grandparents, Thomas Pont and Susan Cassell; aunt, Robin Roberts and his uncle, David Gaffney. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, July 24th from 11-1 at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A service will immediately follow the calling hours at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Following his service, a private burial will be held.
