A loving and lighthearted man, Jimmy deeply cared for the many people whom he crossed paths with. He was a beloved husband to Mariana Giebel, nee Paladines; devoted father of James, Ian, and Isabel Giebel; cherished brother of Douglas (Meghan) Giebel, Ana (George) Sisson, and George (Betty) Giebel; and fond uncle, colleague, and a friend to all.
As Vice President of McFarlane Douglass for over 42 years, Jimmy helped build his family company with a compassionate and innovative vigor alongside his brother, Douglas Giebel. Together, they were the architects of Christmas in Chicago-responsible for the décor and landscape design that enchanted everyone who visited the city, from Downtown Chicago to O'Hare and Midway. Known for his selfless generosity, steady leadership, and creative business initiatives, Jimmy helped his family transform the company from an idea launched in his parent's basement into a Chicago tradition.
Jimmy enjoyed going on adventures with his children, including sailing, skiing, biking, cruising in his Fiat, and riding his Triumph. He loved spending time with others and could often be found sharing a laugh over a cafecito or enjoying an asado with friends and family. A lifelong Argentina fan, he never missed the opportunity to watch Messi y La Albiceleste. Jimmy was a generous spirit, a best friend to many, he was so deeply loved, and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29th, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 South Grant Street, Hinsdale, IL. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 30th, 10:30 AM at Christ Church of Oak Brook, 501 Oak Brook Road, (York Rd. & 31st St.) Oak Brook, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to T1International are appreciated.
