Edward "Ed" C. Hussie, 81, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at his home in Harrisburg. He was born on March 27, 1944, in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Edward J. and Ann (Wall) Hussie.
Ed graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in Philadelphia and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in political science from LaSalle University. He later obtained his Juris Doctor from Dickinson College of Law. A humble man by nature, Ed rarely spoke of his accomplishments-but he always took quiet pride in earning the second-highest score in the state on his bar exam, a testament to his sharp intellect and dedication.
For 40 years, Ed served the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with unwavering integrity-as an attorney and as Chief Legal Counsel for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He was deeply passionate about his work and devoted his career to improving the lives of families across the state. Former Pennsylvania State Representative Sam Rohrer once remarked, "He has inspired, enriched, and enabled not only the members of this House but causes involving families and children."
Despite a remarkable legal career, Ed's greatest joy was found in his family. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Light) Hussie, in July of 1970, and together they raised their beloved daughter, Kathryn "Kate" Hussie. Ed was a devoted husband and a present, loving father who cherished time spent with his family above all else. He went out of his way to show his love for them in every way possible and took immense pride in being "Grandpa." To his granddaughter, Jolie, he was not only a grandfather but a best friend, guardian, and constant source of love and encouragement.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Betsy; his cherished daughter, Kate; his adored granddaughter, Jolie Hussie, and her boyfriend, Chad Williams; brothers, Peter Hussie and Terence "Terry" Hussie and wife, Janice; sisters, Babs Ratner, Judith Hussie-Taylor, and Marion O'Sullivan and husband, Shawn. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Andrew "Andy" Hussie; and sisters, Deanie Guggino and Christina Walker.
An intimate Celebration of Life honoring Ed will be held at the convenience of the family at Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
Ed will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, and profound character. His legacy of compassion, intellect, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
