Edward L. Pennington passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at age 96. He passed peacefully at his farm in Moriarty, New Mexico while surrounded by family. Edward was born April 26, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Edward J. (aka Jewell Edgar) and Justine M. Pennington (Hulen). He was married to Sachiko Sawai Pennington for 63 years until her passing in 2012. Edward was preceded in death by his wife Sachiko, and oldest son Darryl who passed away in 1973 at age 23. Edward was the last of his generation, with his siblings Marion E., Robert L., Anita R., and Joel passing before him. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law —Justin Pennington and wife Deborah of Albuquerque, Robert Pennington and wife Dolores of Moriarty, and David and wife Yvette of Tijeras. He leaves a legacy of sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and his favorite cousin Sandra L. (Pennington) Conroy and her husband Michael of Moriarty.
In addition to his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, Edward had many interesting roles in life over his 96 years. In the late 1940’s he served in the Army and was stationed in Japan where he met and married Sachiko in 1949. He was a boxer, firefighter, charter pilot, air traffic controller, rancher, and farmer.
Edward’s ashes will be interred at Fairview Memorial Park in Albuquerque alongside his wife Sachiko and son Darryl. Burial services are on Friday September 26 at 1:00 pm followed by a gathering at the family farm in Moriarty.
His presence will be missed but his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family
