Elaine Walker Ashworth, 81, of Clinton, Utah passed away from her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, August 27, 2022 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

Born to Frank and Helen Walker, Elaine was the second of eight children with five brothers and two sisters. Elaine was raised in Vernal, Utah and graduated from Uintah High School in 1959. She moved to Ogden and attended Weber College and graduated with her Associates degree.

Elaine then served an 18 month mission to the California Mission. When she returned she attended Brigham Young University where she earned her degree in Early Childhood Development and also her teaching certificate in 1965. After graduation, she taught 2nd grade for two years.

Elaine met her sweetheart, Michael Ashworth in 1964 and they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple, August 12, 1966. Elaine paused her career to start a family and raised five children.

She resumed teaching full time after her youngest child started school and taught at East Layton Elementary (1983-1984), Clinton Elementary (1984-1987), and ended her teaching career at Cook Elementary in Syracuse, Utah (1987-2006). She loved teaching and had an impact on many of her students.

Elaine was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Serving others was an integral part of her life and she served in many capacities in the church and community. For the last eight years, she loved serving in the Ogden Temple with her husband and was tearful when she was no longer physically able to fulfill that calling.

Elaine loved many things but music was her passion. She encouraged all her children to play different instruments and sing. She sang in many groups and solos throughout the years. She had a three octave range. She also played the piano and was a choir director for decades in her ward and stake. Her children will miss hearing her sing around their home.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Michael, her five children and their spouses, Justin Ashworth, Kris Ashworth Fielding (Ken), William Ashworth (Peggy), John Ashworth (Katy), and Lara Ashworth Smith (Jim); 15 grandchildren; and her siblings Gerald Walker, Patricia Snelgrove, Rosemary Christiansen, Robert Walker, Richard Walker and Charles Walker.

Elaine was preceded in death by her loving parents and her brother, Reese Walker.

As a family, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Paige and Chelsea from Inspiration Hospice for keeping her comfortable these last few weeks. We are grateful she was able to remain at home, surrounded by family and friends. We are also thankful for her neighbors and church family for their outpouring of love and support.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the LDS Chapel located at 1708 West 800 North in Clinton.  The family will meet with friends Friday, September 2nd, from 6 -8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Clinton City Cemetery.

My grandma exuded joy wherever she went. She made everyone feel important, loved, and included. Over the years we have attended countless musicals, plays, and other performances together. We especially loved going to Handel´s Messiah, and The Forgotten Carols at Christmas time. Music and the Arts is something thar has always bonded us. I love her more than I can say, and will miss her very, very much.
