Lifetime Morgan County resident, Eli Wright Jr., 93 of Quincy, Indiana, was called home at 1:28 pm on Monday, August 1, 2022. As he left his earthly life he was surrounded by his loving family and in the peace and comfort of his own home. Eli was one of six children born to the late Eli and Lou Nettie (Summers) Wright. His life began on Friday, August 10, 1928, when he was born in Ashland Township, Morgan County, Indiana.
On April 24, 1948, he married the love of his life, Betty Joan (Eubanks) Wright. The two shared over fifty-three years of marriage and were blessed with three children prior to Betty's passing on July 10, 2001.
Eli dedicated thirty-six years of his life to American Standard, formerly J.D. Adams, in Indianapolis. He began his career in 1948 working as a machinist for twelve years and a supervisor for the remaining twenty-four years; retiring in July of 1984. Upon retirement, he and Betty spent time making memories camping and fishing at the lake near Rockville, Indiana. Eli also took pleasure in working on antique tractors and going to tractor shows. His love for antique tractors was evident and he was a lifetime member of the Morgan County Antique Machinery Association. In addition, Eli was a member of the West Newton Masonic Lodge #707, Eminence Order of the Eastern Star and the Corinth Baptist Church in Plano, Indiana.
He leaves behind a host of family who have lovingly cared for him over the past few years including his daughter, Janice Kay Baughn (Perry Richardson) of Martinsville; son, Russell Eli (wife, Jonna Marie) Wright of Eminence; seven beloved grandchildren, Keith (Liz) Smith, Eli Shane (Rachelle) Wright, Lori (Scott) Zoller, Stephanie (Jamie) Hart, Carrie (Chris) Jones, Gwen (Donald) Garthright and Cassie (Matthew) Goodwin-Crossley; and thirteen great grandchildren, Shelby & Jade Hart, Maggie Simon, Samantha Jones, Ali Zoller, Savannah Wright, Cami Smith, Elizabeth & Katie Lawson, Eli & Lauren Wright, Marly & Barrett Goodwin.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances Joan Wright Stierwalt; three brothers, Arlo, Frank and John A. Wright; and two sisters, Hallie Truax and Virginia Wingler.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, August 5th, 2022, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. Members of the masonic lodge will conduct a masonic memorial service on Friday evening at the funeral home. A service celebrating Eli's life will be on Saturday, August 6th, 2022, beginning at 11:00 am at the funeral home and he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Betty, following the service in Mannan Cemetery, Lewisville, Indiana.
Loving memories and condolences are encouraged to be shared with the family online at nealandsummers.com
