Elijah Lorenz Everett

Elijah Lorenz Everett, 15, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Meritus Medical Center from a genetic heart condition.
Born Sunday, August 2, 2009, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of Christopher Everett of Hagerstown and Heather Mapp of Hagerstown.
Elijah currently finished the 9th grade at South Hagerstown High School. He had a deep love and passion for the sport of basketball. Over the years, he played for many local teams always bringing energy, dedication, and passion to the game. His journey was shaped by the support and guidance of his dad and aunt, who helped coach him, along with many other coaches who were instrumental in shaping both skills and character. Known for his height and strong presence on and off the court, he also loved video games-especially Crusader Kings and NBA 2K, and hanging with his friends. To his family, he was affectionately known as "Buttercup," a nickname given to him by his Ama that captured his warm and gentle spirit.
In addition to his parents, Elijah is survived by his maternal great-grandmother, Ardy Jackson and paternal great-grandparents, Jane "Nana" and Sam "Poppop" Everett; maternal grandparents, Lorinda "Grandma" and James "Grandpa" Hunter, maternal grandfather, Michael Mapp, paternal grandmother, Denise "Ama" Polhill, paternal grandfather, Otis Howard; aunt and uncles, Marquita "Auntie" Polhill, Breanna Mapp, Richard Mapp, Deon (Jessica) Everett, Delequa Thompson, Onadia Howard, Tanesha Howard, Julius Howard, Anthony Hunter, and Danielle Hunter. Also surviving is his unborn daughter, Ulani; and a host of beloved cousins and extended family.
Services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 10:00 am, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
