Elizabeth Ann (Smith) Byer, 62, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Jesus, on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming after a struggle with health complications. She was surrounded by her husband, daughters, and sons-in-law.
Liz was born on Wednesday, September 5, 1962, in Casper, Wyoming to Harry Smith and Lorene (Billington) Smith. She was the youngest of three children. She was born with a brittle bone disease and sustained more than 30 broken bones over the course of her life. However, she never let this discourage her from living life to the fullest and showing grace to others. Although she struggled her whole childhood with health problems, she was excited for the opportunity to attend college at the University of Wyoming to major in computer science. She had many fond memories and hilarious stories of her time in Laramie. It was there she met and began dating her future husband, Timothy Wayne Byer.
Tim and Liz were married on July 12, 1986. The couple had two daughters, Dani and Nicki. Liz loved her daughters and her sons-in-law, James and Caleb greatly; however, the pride of her life was her grandchildren. She had three granddaughters and three grandsons: Natasha, Eleanor, Joanna, Henry, James, and Judah.
One of Liz's favorite things to do was to be outside. She loved the sunshine and thoroughly enjoyed tending to her potted flowers and vegetables in her patio garden. She relished her time going camping and fishing, especially with her family and grandchildren. She also loved reading and writing. She even wrote her own book. Liz loved to take care of her house cats and had a soft spot for any wayward cat who happened to show up at her door. She could often be found feeding the wild birds and squirrels outside the back door of her home and she spent a great deal of time simply watching their antics.
While living in Casper she worked for Wyoming Independent Living as a secretary and computer programmer. When she and Tim moved to Douglas in 1994, she started her own web design business, known as Douglas Web Technology. She continued working at this profession until 1999 when she became the secretary for First Baptist Church. She remained in this position until 2024. She enjoyed serving the Lord and ministering to all the people who came through the door of her office. She especially enjoyed working with kids and thrived on serving at Vacation Bible School each summer, helping the church host the harvest party each October, and teaching Sunday school for several years.
Liz is survived by her husband, Tim, of Douglas, Wyoming; daughter, Dani Forseen (James), of Alamosa, Colorado; daughter, Nicki Holscher (Caleb), of Douglas, Wyoming; brother, Bruce Smith (Lisa), of Casper, Wyoming; and sister-in-law, Scottie Smith, of Casper, Wyoming. She is also survived by six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; older brother, Richard Smith; mother-in-law, Marilyn Fletcher; and nephews James Smith and Bruce Smith.
Funeral services for Liz will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church, 209 South Fourth Street, Douglas, Wyoming with Pastor Bill Williamson and Zack Andrews officiating. Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 209 South Fourth Street, Douglas, Wyoming 82633.
The family has requested that the attendees to wear sunflowers/daisies, yellow, or bright colors.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Forseen, Caleb Holscher, Keith Byer, Cliff Byer, Warren Byer, and Colton Byer.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Natasha Forseen, Eleanor Forseen, Joanna Forseen, Henry Forseen, James Holscher, Judah Holscher, Rick Andrews, Lori Andrews Lorinda Mackowiak, Cindy Campbell, Swade Prewitt, and Russ Vargas
