Elizabeth Schwem Gray
With great sadness and gratitude for her life and love, we announce the end of Libby's journey on Earth. She passed away on August 22, 2024 in Grand Ledge, MI. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Gray, parents Joseph and Elizabeth Schwem, brothers Marvin Schwem and Jack Schwem and son-in-law Jim Storms. She is survived by daughters; Batya Schrieber, Barbara Gray, Helen Gray Storms, Carol (Shawn) Murphy, Marsha (Robert Utter) Gray, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Libby was born in Ferndale, Michigan on December 4, 1930, graduated from Grosse Point High School and Western Michigan University with a degree in Occupational Therapy. She married Jim on April 11, 1953 and they welcomed their five "Gray Girls."
She took a break from her career and excelled as a homemaker and role model; getting the girls off to a good start, then went back to school and received her degree as a licensed practical nurse. She worked in pediatrics at St. Joseph hospital in Ann Arbor, and later St. Joes in Pontiac. After retiring, Libby and Jim moved to their "home on the hill" in rural Boyne Falls and enjoyed gardening, volunteering and travel.
She spent the last 13 years of her life in Grand Ledge.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Feeding America, Donate Today to End Hunger in America | Feeding America or to the Capital Area Humane Society, Donation Form (donorperfect.net) in loving memory of Libby Gray.
She shares this thought:
"I loved a wonderful man who gave me his encouragement and love, and life of fun, challenge and five of the world's best daughters. I loved singing and music. I loved dark chocolate, tart lemon pie, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, family campfires, watching my daughters bond and grow, dry white wine, and seeing grandchildren and great grandchildren develop into the wonders that they are.
If something is said to be lost, I think that it is never truly lost.it is 'somewhere'.so Jim is not lost nor am I.we are 'somewhere.'"
