Elizabeth Marie Simonich Ollmann, affectionately known as Liz, passed away on December 6, 2025. Born on March 1, 1935, in
Bremond, TX, she was a radiant soul whose life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and hard work.
Liz was born in Bremond Texas to Marion and Annie Bartula Snider on March 1, 1935. She was #3 of eight children. As her father worked for the railroad, she hitched a ride to Chicago and attended high school at a convent to fulfill her calling as a servant to the Lord. Family matters called her back to Texas and she sacrificed her dream.
During the Korean War, her cousin Grady had asked her to be a pen pal with his shipmate, Donald M Simonich. Don and Liz were married on June 19,1954. They moved to Butte Montana and started their family. A government job moved their family to Ogden Utah. Their union brought six kids.
Their family was one of the earlier families that were very instrumental in establishing and supporting the new St James the Just Catholic Church. Liz was very active with many church callings: den mother, choir, ushering, prayer chain and funeral coordinator, and the Promoters.
After fifteen years of marriage, Don and Liz divorced. After hearing strange noises coming from her car, a kind neighbor had a brother who was a car whisperer who offered to help. This rescue resulted in a date at Jade Tree. The car whisperer was Chester A Ollmann and they married on February 3, 1973. Two more kids came from their union. Liz and Chet continued to support St James.
Liz's devotion was first to family especially the grand babies and great grand babies. Her next devotion was her care and service to the elderly members of the church or anyone that was in need of her help. She was Ogden's Mother Theresa with a community award from her favorite AM radio station, KLO. Through the years, she became a surrogate mother and grandmother to many that knew her.
Her faith was very strong. During Covid and her later years, she was an active church attendee via the EWTN TV station. She "attended" Mass in multiple countries and multiple times a day.
Liz was also proud of her Polish heritage and even sponsored the Slazak family from Poland: Andrew, Mickey and Michael. She is survived by her children: Matt Simonich, Donna (Alan) Chambers, Pat (Valerie) Simonich, Marty Simonich, Paul (Nicoletta) Simonich, Maria (Leon) Krug, Marcie (Matt) Hart, 24 grandkids with their spouses, and 15 great grandkids. She is also survived by her siblings: Bernice and Marion Jr.
She is reunited with her parents, her husband, her sisters: Maryanne, Helen, Maxine, and Barbara and one brother David, her son Thomas William (Billy) and many other family members.
The family will miss the birthday gifts of socks with money hidden; the Christmas boxer shorts for the sons and son in laws; the Happy Name Day phone calls; the "love you" sign she would wave as we dropped her off or left after a visit; the happy birthday and anniversary cards she would send many extended family members; and her "love you more" response to our "I love you Mom".
Her family wants to extend a special thanks to Therese Bird for being her church taxi, her neighbor, Gloria for keeping an eye on her and being her shopping taxi, Anne Critchlow for the Golden Girl lunch driver and many more friends that took her to special gatherings. It takes a village and the family appreciates everyone and everything that was done for their Elizabeth.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass for Liz will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 495 North Harrison Blvd,
Ogden, UT, on Saturday January 3, 2026 beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Elizabeth's name be made to
Special Olympics or to Catholic Community Services of
Ogden, Utah. Condolences may be sent through www.myers-mortuary.com.
