Elizabeth Carson Dunn Peterson (Betsy) passed away on July 4, 2025. She will be deeply missed by those privileged to have known her.
Her closest surviving relatives take comfort in their confidence that God had reserved a special place for Betsy. She was genuine and plain-spoken, a defender of those less fortunate, and loved deeply her family and friends who in turn regarded her with much love and respect. Her surviving friends and relatives will remember in particular her sharp (and at times biting) wit, loyalty, and wonderful sense of humor.
Betsy entered this world on March 5, 1948. She was the younger daughter of Jackson Scherer Dunn and Mary Elizabeth Carson Dunn, sister of Mary Susan Dunn Rounds, and wife of Brent Robert Peterson, the four of whom pre-deceased her. Betsy is survived by stepson, Curt Peay of Utah and first cousins Jane Carson Britt of Virginia, Dan Carson of South Carolina, Noel Carson Porter of Virginia, and Shannon Carson of New York.
Betsy was born in Pulaski, Virginia and lived much of her young life in Romney, West Virginia. She attended and graduated from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va. As her father and immediate family were transferred with Hercules, Inc. to Lawrence, Kansas and then in 1971 to Salt Lake City, Betsy followed.
In Romney and throughout her Utah residency, Betsy continued a life-long friendship with Sharon Hawk Kelly and brother Roger Kelly whose father's career track resembled that of Betsy's dad, Jack, culminating with a Salt Lake City posting. Sharon's and Roger's friendships were of such value to Betsy that they merit a place in this much-abbreviated account of her life.
Importantly and in conclusion, Betsy's family notes its sincere appreciation of the companionship, care and comfort provided Betsy by long-term friend Angie Eldridge over, especially, the last few months and years of her life.
May you rest in peace, Dear One.
