Ella Carroll Whiteman of Atlanta passed away on November 8, 2025, at the age of 18.
Born in Colorado Springs, CO, Ella was the beloved daughter of Louis and Maura Whiteman. She lived her life with extraordinary passion, a thirst for adventure, and a heart full of kindness.
Ella's love for animals shaped much of who she was. She was known to carry a small bag of cat food on her travels, just in case she encountered a stray in need. Her adventurous spirit took her around the world-surfing the waves of Ireland, cliff diving in the Azores, and snorkeling alongside sea turtles and sharks in the Caribbean. An avid distance runner and basketball player, Ella completed multiple half marathons and competed on her high school running and basketball teams.
Service to others was at the center of Ella's summers. She volunteered at the Georgia Aquarium, brought laughter and companionship to residents at local senior centers, and championed numerous animal welfare causes. Her commitment to helping others earned her three United States President's Volunteer Service Awards.
Ella was a student at Furman University in Greenville, S.C., where she was a member of the running club and participated in many aspects of campus life.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Anna Whiteman and Thomas and Ellen Seymour; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and relatives who she loved and who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Glenn Whiteman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, December,12, 2025, at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Catholic Church in Maryland. A Memorial Mass and celebration of Ella's life will be held on Monday, January 5, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Atlanta.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to two organizations close to Ella's heart: Pebble Tossers at ella.pebbletossers.org, or LifeLine Animal Project, https://lifelineanimal.org/tribute-gifts/, both are based in Atlanta.
