Veteran radio personality, voice actor, public servant, and father of five, Elliot Field, was born in Malden, Massachusetts on June 24, 1927 and departed on September 23, 2024 in Rancho Mirage, California at the age of 97. Born to parents Israel "I.P." and Augusta "Gussie" Shienfeld, Elliot was brought up in the Boston area with brothers Paul Shienfeld and Henry "Hank" Elliott. While still in grade school, Elliot began his career in radio with CBS' Youth on Parade show. He graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School and attended the University of Florida where he took great pride in being a Gator and member of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity.
Elliot's commitment to a career in radio brought him to stations and listeners in Florida, Texas, California, and Michigan. He created recognizable characters, delivered world events, and contributed to shaping the modern format of the radio industry. Elliot is best known for his work as a deejay and voice actor, from "The Incredible Hulk" cartoon series, to Alvin Brickrock on the "Flintstones." As one of KFWB's Seven Swinging Gentleman, he lit up Southern California's airwaves and record hops alike with his "Field Frolic," Tex, and sharp, well-rehearsed delivery.
Elliot made Palm Springs his permanent home in 1969, where he spent the next 55 years deeply rooted in the Coachella Valley. He raised a family and became a prominent figure in the local business community. He launched KPSI radio, further establishing his presence in broadcasting, and ran a successful public relations firm through which he played an integral role in shaping the region's media and commercial landscape.
Elliot volunteered in his community, serving on the Palm Springs City Council and Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Board. While taking on these many commitments, Elliot also found time to travel extensively, including a round-the-world cruise aboard the SS Rotterdam in 1997 at the age of 70.
Elliot is survived by his brother Paul and sister in law, Jayne Shienfeld, five children, David Field, Steven Field, Julie Barros, Maureen Guarcello (husband Rob Guarcello), Elliot R. Field (wife Stephanie Field), and grandchildren, Andrew Barros, Matt Polizzi, Rosemary Field, and Callahan Field. He is preceded in death by his wife and great love, Mary Louise Devitt Field, his parents, brother Hank Elliott, and daughter in law Pia Field.
Elliot Field will be remembered for his remarkable contributions to the world of radio, his leadership in the community, and his dedication to his family. A member of the Greatest Generation, his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
