Ellis Lynn Wilson, 72, of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, passed away unexpectedly on September 30th, 2022. While at his home in Branson, Missouri, he suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, and later passed in the presence of his wife and children.
Lynn was preceded in death by his father, Wiley Ellis Wilson, and mother, Della Marie Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Wanda Wilson, and children Ellis Lynn Jr. (Michelle) Wilson, EmmaLee Wilson Davis, Michael (Courtney) Wilson, and Sarah (Brandon) VanBuskirk and grandchildren Jonathan, Christopher, Lyndsey, Rilee, Millee, Wyley, Kelley, Willa, Reese, Luke, Charlie, Wesley, Corbin, Bella, and great grandchildren John, Sterling, and one on the way, and sisters Cindy (Mark) Stevens, Becky (Kenny) Forman, Sandra (Steve) Beverlin, and sister in-law Cindy Sloan.
Lynn grew up in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, where he loved fishing, baseball, and singing while playing his guitar. He was a golden glove winning boxer and held a 5th degree black belt in Isshinryu Karate where he instructed others. He was born with nystagmus, a genetic eye condition, that resulted in very poor vision from birth. Despite this, he would persevere and master many areas of life. On July 26,1980, in Clinton, Mississippi, Lynn married Wanda, the love of his life and his partner of 42 years that he would hardly spend a night away from. Lynn was a certified master electrician, and in 1982 he started the Wilson Electric Company in Clinton, Mississippi, where he employed many people and was very successful. During this time, he and his wife also opened a restaurant called Pedalers. In 1992, he wrote many songs and professionally recorded a Christian album that was played locally on the Christian radio station. God began to call Lynn away from his business and so he left everything to follow Jesus, and Wanda supported him. Being concerned with writing Biblically accurate lyrics, he pursued a theological degree from Liberty University. He graduated in 1994, and became convicted that the Gospel should be shared clearly and accurately. He would spend the rest of his life pursuing Jesus, sharing Jesus with others, and teaching others to share Jesus. Lynn held a position at the First Baptist Church of Hollister where he did evangelism training and outreach. In 1997, Lynn and Wanda purchased Ozark Trout Resort. There he would build lifetime relationships, and use his many skills from being an electrician, carpenter, plumber, to working on cars and boats. A skill he learned from his father. At one point, Lynn would design and engineer a boat that is easier and safer to fish from.
You cannot think of Lynn Wilson without thinking about Jesus. Lynn was completely defined and identified by Jesus. His family remembers him pouring over God's Word daily. Reading from the book of Proverbs every day, filling his Bible with words in every margin, underlines and highlights. We never heard him give us a favorite verse, because we are sure he loved the entire Word of God. Lynn was concerned that people knew two things above all: who Jesus is, that he is God, and what Jesus did, that He died to pay the penalty for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day. There is no person who loved Jesus more. Lynn would hand out tracts to everyone he could, and even paid for a mail insert that presented the gospel to go out to everyone in Branson. Lynn was an active member of The Way Baptist Church where he served on the mission committee, security team, and loved his pastor and church family.
His family remembers him as being humble, gentle and kind. He loved his grandchildren and they loved him. Everyone respected and loved him. He was generous to others with everything he had, and had an impact on countless people. He was not perfect, but he was amazing at pointing others to the One who is.
