Elnora Clark Nelson, 90, of Mill Run, Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, September 16, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born March 21, 1935, in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
Elnora retired from the Owensboro Board of Education as the Coordinator for the River Region Cooperative. This educational agency provided services, equipment, and supplies to parents and children with disabilities in the thirteen-county area of western Kentucky. Prior to her employment at the Cooperative, Elnora was the Executive Director of First Chance Center in Paoli, Indiana. She was instrumental in the formation of a support group for parents of children with disabilities and sought funds to build a new rehabilitation center in 1983. During her early years, Elnora was a speech therapist in the Lafayette, Indiana public schools. She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and her Master of Science from Purdue University.
Since her retirement Elnora has worked part time at the Willow Tree. She will be remembered by her positive outlook on life and her ability to see the best in people.
In addition to her parents, Elnora is preceded in death by her son, Craig Nelson, in 2000, and her husband, David Nelson, in 2006.
She is survived her son, Jonathon Nelson, of Richmond, Kentucky.
The funeral service for Elnora will be 4 PM Saturday, September 27, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 12 PM until time of service at the funeral home.
