Elpidio R. Torrez, lovingly known as Al, passed away on June 21, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on December 16, 1937, in Georgetown, Texas, to Pilar Torrez, Sr. and Eufemia Rangel Torrez.

A devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Al was a man with a strong sense of family and community. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a window clerk for 29 years and was a faithful member of St. Helen's Catholic Church. Al cherished time spent with loved ones and enjoyed golfing, traveling, trying his luck at the casino, and sharing quiet moments with his cats.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Pilar and Eufemia Torrez; his daughter, Diana Torrez; his siblings, Luis Torrez, Mario Torrez, Carolina Dominguez, and Alice Munoz; his grandson, Adrian Hidrogo; and his great-granddaughter, baby Felicia Torrez.

He is survived by his children: Rita Santiago and husband, Edgar; Becky Ochoa and husband, Rick; Eufemia "Emma" Goris; Elpidio Torrez Jr. and wife, Rose Mary; and Alana Torrez and husband, Mike. Al also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings: John Torrez and wife Janie, Pilar Torrez, Jr. and wife Denney, Ruben Torrez, Johnny Torrez and wife Sylvia, Janie Beck and husband John, Mary Hill, and Inez Garza and husband Ernest.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Stephen Torrez, Ernest Torrez, Jacob Torrez, Edgar Santiago, Evan Santiago, and Matthew Santiago. Honorary Pallbearers will be Benny Matias, Troy Ledesma, and Roger Calvillo.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 N Interstate 35, Georgetown, Texas 78628, with viewing from 6:00–7:00 PM, followed by a family remembrance and the Rosary from 7:00–8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S I-35 Frontage Road, Austin, Texas 78704, with a reception to be held afterwards at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Avenue, Austin, Texas 78704.

Al will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Rita and Edgar Santiago, and Elpidio Torrez Jr. for their loving care and support during their father's time of need. Thank you also to his oncologist, Dr. Sandy Anne, AccentCare Home Health, and AccentCare Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
