Emily Eugenia Oubre "Genie" Bond was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on August 30, 1948, and passed away early Wednesday morning January 15, 2025 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William P. "Billy" Bond of the Stoney Point Community; daughter and son-in-law, Emily Christina "Christy" and Randy Myers of Robert, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Sarah Bond of Marion, Illinois; son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Bobby" and Ana Bond of Marietta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Conner Myers, Cade Myers, Robert William Bond, Jr., and Isabella Bond; brother, David Oubre of Prairieville, Louisiana; brothers in law and sisters-in-law Danny and Cornell Bond, Kinell and Nancy Cox, and Marvin Poole all of Stoney Point. Her niece Nicole Gonzales and nephew Brent Maggio, from her sister Carolyn, were like a daughter and son. She had numerous other nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldron Ledmond Oubre and Emily Rivault Oubre; father in law and mother-in-law, Quillos Daniel "Q.D." and Wilkie Lee Bankston Bond; sister Carolyn O. Maggio; brother-in-law Nickie Charles Maggio; sister-in-law Marilyn Bagala Oubre and sister-in-law Elizabeth Ann Bond Poole.
Genie graduated from Dutchtown High School in 1966, earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University, and received a Master of Science in Nursing and a PhD in Adult Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. She began her career as a Registered Nurse at Lallie Kemp Charity Hospital and the Louisiana State Department of Health. She worked at Southeastern Louisiana University for over 30 years, holding numerous positions, including Professor of Nursing and Director of Sponsored Research and Programs. Throughout her career, she embodied teaching, research, and service excellence. Genie and her husband enjoyed traveling the country for their careers and supporting SLU Athletics. It was a blessing to them to work with other professors to train generations of nurses and other medical professionals. She retired as a Professor Emeritus of Nursing.
Genie was filled with joy in her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She delighted in studying His Word, found happiness in teaching Sunday School for many years at Stoney Point Missionary Baptist Church, and greatly enjoyed sharing the Gospel. Her faith brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She was active in the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the US Daughters of 1812.
Her heart overflowed with happiness whenever she spent time with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, brother, and family. The sheer joy she experienced surrounded by her many friends and family was a delightful sight to behold.
Services will be held at Stoney Point Baptist Church (37038 Hwy 10, Franklinton, LA, 70438) on Monday, January 20. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am with Bro. Everette Broome and Bro. Brent King presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family sincerely appreciates the support and prayers from relatives and friends and the care provided by the physicians, nurses, and staff of Ochsner Health System and St. Tammany Parish Hospital. Heartfelt gratitude is extended to Dr. Craig Seicshnaydre.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the Stoney Point Baptist Church Women's Sunday School Class at the address above.
